Rising Damp

Rising Damp Treatment on the Northern Beaches

Damp that creeps up your walls from the ground — bubbling paint, crumbling plaster, that musty smell — is rising damp. Painting over it never works. We find where the moisture is coming from and treat it at the source, for homes across the Northern Beaches and North Shore.

THE SIGNS

Rising damp shows up low on the wall — and keeps coming back.

Rising damp is groundwater wicking up through masonry where the damp-proof course has failed or is missing. It shows in a band near the floor and returns no matter how often it’s painted — because the water is still coming.

A tide line low on the wall

A stain band up to roughly a metre from the floor.

Bubbling, flaking paint & render

Finishes pushed off by moisture and salt.

Crumbling or salty plaster

White salt deposits (efflorescence) on the surface.

Skirting & timber rot

Damp wicking into skirtings and floor timbers.

A persistent musty smell

Moisture held in the wall.

Damp that returns after painting

The tell-tale sign it’s rising damp, not a one-off leak.

You can’t paint your way out of rising damp — the damp-proofing has to be restored.

WHAT WE DO

Stop the moisture at the source.

We diagnose why the damp-proofing has failed, restore the barrier and make good — so the wall dries out and stays dry.

HOW WE WORK

Diagnose, treat, dry, make good.

Rising damp needs the cause fixed and time to dry — we do it in the right order.

01

Site assessment

Inspect and moisture-test to confirm rising damp and its source.

02

Diagnosis & scope

Rule out leaks and condensation; define the works with an itemised quote.

03

Treat the cause

Restore the damp-proof course and fix external ground / drainage issues.

04

Remove & re-render

Strip salt-affected plaster and re-render with salt-resistant systems.

05

Dry & make good

Allow the wall to dry, then finish ready to repaint; documented.
