Copper & Sandstone Renovation

The Brief

New additions, original character.

The project set out to improve on the existing building while adding several stunning new features — lifting the entrance and outdoor entertaining, while restoring and preserving the character that made the home special in the first place.

The result was to be a cohesive, sophisticated outdoor space where new additions and original details sat together as one.

The Challenge

Blending the new with the old.

Adding to an established home is a balancing act — the new work has to feel like it always belonged. That meant meticulously restoring the original stonework rather than replacing it, and selecting materials that suit a coastal lifestyle and age gracefully — solid hardwood, and copper that weathers beautifully. Every detail, down to the downpipes and rail caps, had to earn its place in a single, considered scheme.

What We Did

A pergola, copper and restored stone.

Working across design, construction and landscape as one team, we reworked the home’s outdoor spaces and restored its character:

• Built an extensive solid hardwood entrance pergola for a grand, welcoming aesthetic that complements the home’s architecture, with planted wisteria climbing vines adding beauty and shade
• Installed custom outdoor BBQ joinery, perfect for entertaining and maximising the outdoor area
• Meticulously repointed the sandstone to restore and preserve the character of the original stonework, and added chain-hanging downpipes
• Added copper detailing throughout — outdoor lights for warm, inviting illumination, detail caps to the hand railings, and a copper outdoor shower designed for the coastal lifestyle

The Result

Refined, characterful, coastal.

The project seamlessly integrates improvements and new additions into a cohesive, sophisticated outdoor space that elevates the overall charm and usability of the property. The hardwood pergola and wisteria make a grand arrival, the BBQ joinery opens the outdoors up for entertaining, and the copper detailing and restored sandstone give the whole home a refined, characterful finish built to weather beautifully by the coast.
